Age-Friendly Walking School Bus Program

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Sir Charles Tupper Elementary – Walking School Bus

The Age-Friendly Walking School Bus (AFWSB) Program is a formal, school-based version of the traditional Walking School Bus program. Elementary-aged students who live within 1.6 km of the school walk to school together in a group, led by 1–2 registered volunteer AFWSB Walk Leaders from the school community, such as parents, guardians, or older adults.

Just like a real school bus, students follow a safe walking route and a set schedule, picking up other students along the way!

The HRCE-approved program was successfully piloted at Sir Charles Tupper last year and will now run year-round — Fall, Winter, and Spring!

🌟 How It Works

  • The program operates every school day, mornings only.
  • It is free, but registration is required.
  • Routes and schedules are created based on demand, so the more families who register, the more AFWSB routes we can offer!
